Main Street makes a useful starting point for getting to know downtown Greenville. Stop at M. Judson Booksellers in the historic courthouse building for books and gifts, then continue browsing the city center's shops and public art. Choose a pace that leaves room for the places that catch your eye.

At the southern end of the downtown outing, Falls Park on the Reedy and the Liberty Bridge give you a view of the river and falls. If a meal is part of your plan, Soby's serves Southern-inspired food on South Main Street, while Jianna offers Italian dishes and oysters from its second-floor location overlooking the park. Confirm each restaurant's current reservation arrangements directly.

Drivers can use the city's parking finder before setting out. Keep the route flexible rather than packing in every stop: a bookstore, a meal and time at the park are enough for a useful first look at downtown.
