Hello, Bend. A new arts center offers plenty to explore, but its visit rules matter before you head over. Today’s read also has an open-mic deadline, a drop-in zine workshop, weekend plans and the traffic timings worth keeping handy.
Local discovery Today’s big storyThe Art Station has a new home. Choose a class before you go.Bend’s Art Station is teaching from its new permanent home at Larkspur Park, 1650 SE. Reed Market Road. The park district’s opening notice confirms that preschool, youth and adult programs have started in the 5,000-square-foot building. That restores a dedicated facility after programs left the Old Mill District train depot in 2022 and used several community locations. The new center has three classrooms, including a clay studio with a kiln room, two multipurpose spaces and a gallery wall. Twelve pottery wheels and two kilns expand the district’s clay-program capacity, while Harmon Clay Studio continues operating too. Other offerings include drawing, painting, glass, digital arts, music and no-school-day camps. A course’s registration page identifies the actual venue, age range, fee and availability. The key detail for a visit is that regular classes require registration. The current facility page says hours vary and that ordinary drop-in visits are not offered. Choose a class through the Fall 2026 Playlist or registration links before making the trip. For With Your Child classes, the fee includes one child and one required participating adult, and the district directs families to register the child only. The October 11 opening celebration has passed. The district separately lists free public open houses on November 14, December 12, January 9 and February 13. Those are explicit dates in the notice, rather than dates inferred from a weekday pattern. They provide a different way to explore the center; check the event’s updated details for its actual time before you plan a visit. For a creative outing sooner, Friday’s library zine workshop below is a separate drop-in option for ages 14 and older.

News NotesGetting around A flagging window today, and a new one on Archie Briggs The city’s current road report lists three-way flagging at Stevens and Ward today, 9 a.m.–noon. Archie Briggs Road between Crusher and OB Riley has flagging scheduled October 15–23, 8:30 a.m.–4 p.m. NW Arizona Avenue’s overnight detour remains scheduled 7 p.m.–7 a.m. through October 23. Use the report for route planning; work windows can change. Outdoors Choose your crossing before Monday Columbia Park and Gilchrist Bridge close Monday, October 19 at 8 a.m. for the park and bridge project. The park district expects the closure through early summer 2027 and recommends Bend Whitewater Park or Galveston Avenue as alternate crossings. Playground, lawn and pathways are included in the park closure. River-use restrictions during particular construction stages will get separate notices. Civic One week left in the intersection-design survey The Olney/Revere online open house and survey remain posted through October 22. The city is reviewing early designs for four intersections at Fourth and Eighth streets. The in-person October 8 meeting has passed; the online survey is the current participation option. Construction is anticipated in 2027 with sequencing subject to change, so this is a design-stage discussion. Schools Match the conference break to the school Bend-La Pine’s general elementary and middle-school calendars show no-school conference days October 28–30. Separate Realms Middle and Deschutes River High calendars have an October 23 staff-work day; Realms Middle conferences are October 29–30. Use the precise school calendar before arranging childcare or taking time off, rather than applying one district date to every high school. Arts An ongoing gallery stop at Barber Library COCC’s Rotunda Gallery at Barber Library lists The Best of the High Desert Art League through December 6. The September 24 reception has passed, but the exhibition remains on the current college calendar. Match a visit to Barber’s dated operating-hours feed: it lists the library closed this Saturday, October 17. The exhibition’s end date is not a promise of daily access. Schools A college-planning date for seniors and families Bend-La Pine Schools lists Financial Aid Information Night for November 18, 6–7:30 p.m., at Caldera High School. The program is geared toward seniors and their families while welcoming others interested in postsecondary study. Local-college presenters will explain application routes and answer questions, and school-to-career counselors will share available support. Save the district notice if college or vocational study is part of your student’s plan.
Local find The Local FindA dated Monday offer at On TapOn Tap’s next dated Local’s Day is Monday, October 19, from 11 a.m.–9 p.m. at 1424 NE. Cushing Drive. The current organizer listing explicitly offers $1 off drinks. Food is purchased separately, and no food discount is stated. Alcohol service is for adults 21 and older. The venue’s home page lists independent food trucks with their own schedules. If you are making a group dinner plan, choose a food option that is actually operating at the time you want to meet. Seating is first come, first served, and On Tap says it does not take reservations. The dated offer is useful for saving a Monday plan; it should not be assumed to apply to every drink purchase on another day.

Lafayette Avenue, Bend | No admission charge stated in the official city notice See the final design, learn how community input and technical analysis changed it, and review the project’s next steps. The in-person session is Tuesday, October 20. An ODOT online open house begins the same day and runs through November 3 for people who cannot attend in person.
The WrapChoose the plan that fits your day, and save its location and entry rule with the time. A registered art class, a library drop-in and an open house each work differently. If a neighborhood change or a local program belongs in a future edition, send the editorial team a tip through Bend’s CityApollo form.
