Hello, Carmel. Save a new location for Saturday’s Arts in Autumn, then choose a concert, author conversation or family library outing. We also have school-calendar reminders and the first Carmel early-voting dates for next week. | ||||||||
Weekend / Local change Today’s big storyArts in Autumn has a new address for SaturdaySaturday’s Arts in Autumn is moving a little farther south along the Monon. The city’s October 13 advisory relocates the free, all-ages festival from Midtown Plaza to Monon Boulevard and the adjacent green space just north of the Up and Down the Monon Playground, at the northeast corner of City Center Drive and Monon Boulevard. The date and hours remain Saturday, October 17, from 2 to 5 p.m. The reason is scheduled maintenance in Midtown Plaza. If the original announcement is still in your saved plans, update the location before setting out: attendees and vendors should reach the revised event area via Monon Boulevard. The city also removes the movie from the program. The previously advertised screening of Encanto will not take place at this relocated event. Everything else carries forward under the advisory. That includes hands-on craft stations, local artisan and community vendors, interactive activities and Touch-a-Truck. Carmel’s Fire, Police and Street departments are among the listed participants, giving families a chance to see department vehicles up close. The original lineup also names makers such as All the Little Things, Co., artist Ana Escalante and Busybee Headbands, alongside the Get Local Books truck and Newfields. Free admission is separate from anything you choose to buy from vendors. The traffic changes last longer than the afternoon festival. Monon Boulevard between Walnut Street and Olympian Way, plus Olympian Way between Veterans Way and Monon Boulevard, will close to vehicles from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Keep those blocks in mind even if you are only crossing the area for another errand. For a simple family plan, use the revised playground-side location, leave time to reach it around the closures, and choose the craft and vehicle activities that suit your group. The city’s location advisory is the controlling update to the earlier festival announcement.

Arts Worth a closer lookStudent ideas inside a new public artworkCarmel High School students helped shape the fine details of Channels of Connection, an illuminated sculpture by Casto Solano. Workshops led by CHS Art Department Chair Jennifer Bubp produced sketches, poetry, short stories and mural drawings. Students pitched their ideas to the artist in video workshops; the incorporated details include custom hair strands and a reference to the Carmel Greyhound mascot. The city schedules the dedication for Tuesday, October 20, at 4:30 p.m. at the Main Street and Lexington Boulevard roundabout, beside the high-school campus. Its announcement places installation during fall break by Indiana-based bo-mar Industries. That is the announced installation schedule; the release does not establish a completed installation today. The upcoming ceremony gives families and public-art followers a specific milestone to put on the calendar, with the official city release carrying the latest details.
