Hello, Fort Collins. Sunday’s Open Streets offers a different way to experience Laurel Street. Before the weekend, save the school-calendar distinctions, tonight’s away game and next week’s municipal-service closure, then choose an arts outing that fits.
Community & outdoors Today’s big storyPlan a Sunday on Laurel Street without the carsOpen Streets returns Sunday, October 18, from 10 AM to 3 PM, turning Laurel Street between Mason and Shields into a car-free community space. The city describes the annual celebration as free, with activities for all ages. Walking, biking, rolling and scootering are all part of the plan. Food-truck purchases are separate, so the event can be a short exploration or a longer outing with a meal. Start with the city’s official activity map. It identifies food trucks, music, art, bathrooms and water stations along the route, making it useful for choosing where to begin and how far your group wants to go. Activities are spread along the street, rather than gathered at a single stage. Ollie’s Bike Parade launches the day at 10 AM, giving riders an opening activity with a specific start time. There is music throughout the five-hour event. The posted schedule lists the School of Rock Youth Stage from 10 AM to 3 PM; Debr4h Forever from 10 AM to noon; Fort Collins African Drum and Dance from noon to 2 PM; Natalie Sterling from 1 to 3 PM; and bagpiper Lryrl Vaecairn from 1:30 to 3 PM. These overlapping windows let visitors choose a portion of the day without trying to catch everything. The route also includes hands-on art, wellness activities and demonstrations from local organizations and businesses. At Laurel and Howes, the city highlights live painting for a transformer-cabinet mural. Beyond the individual activities, Open Streets gives residents a chance to experience familiar road space at a walking or cycling pace and see how it connects neighborhood destinations. Save the map before leaving, agree on a meeting point with your group and choose the stretch that fits your time and energy.

News NotesSchools Today’s school break differs by level PSD’s district calendar lists today, Thursday, October 15, as a no-school day for elementary students, followed by a no-school day Friday, October 16. The Thursday distinction matters for households with children at different school levels. Early-childhood and other programs may use a separate calendar, so check the schedule that applies to your child before arranging care or assuming every student has the same day off. Roads & services College/Trilby: cleanup after reopening The city describes College/Trilby as reopened, with minor work along the edges in October and November that will not affect the reopened intersection. It also anticipates a brief closure east of College for a later watermain-valve installation, without giving a specific date. Check the live traffic notices before leaving. Sports The Rams play away tonight Colorado State plays at Texas State tonight, Thursday, October 15, at 6 PM Mountain Time. The game is in San Marcos, Texas. The next listed Fort Collins home game is October 24 against San Diego State at 4:30 PM Mountain Time. Use the official schedule for current game and ticket details. City services Another chance to weigh in on the city budget The city’s 2027–28 budget is still in the recommended-budget and public-review stage. Its process page lists another public hearing October 20, with proposed adoption readings November 3 and 17. Read the recommended budget or submit feedback through the city’s budget page if you want to comment on services and priorities. The process page links the current council planning calendar for the meeting schedule; no final adoption is claimed. City services Municipal service counter closes October 19–23 Fort Collins Municipal Court closes Monday, October 19 through Friday, October 23 for renovations and reopens at 8 AM Monday, October 26. The city says payment deadlines still apply; fines must be paid online during the closure. Anyone with a hearing scheduled during that week should contact the court before the hearing date to reschedule. For direct assistance, the published number is 970-221-6800 and the address is court@FortCollins.gov. Arts availability Sleepy Hollow performances now show sold out The Lincoln Center’s current page marks all six listed performances of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow sold out, including Saturday’s 7 PM show that previously had a ticket link. The listing covers October 16–24 and recommends ages 5 and older, with a $15 all-in regular price. This is a ticket-availability update, not an invitation to turn up for admission. Check the theater directly for any later ticket changes.
Local arts & makers The Local FindChoose the studios before next weekendThe Fort Collins Artist Studio Tour and Sale opens more than 70 local artist spaces for a self-guided weekend on October 24, 10 AM–5 PM, and October 25, noon–5 PM. The city describes opportunities to meet makers, watch demonstrations and buy original work across pottery, sculpture, fiber, photography, painting and jewelry. A useful way to start is the Center for Creativity’s preview exhibition, open October 14–25 with free entry Wednesday–Sunday, noon–6 PM. It lets visitors compare work and choose which studios to visit before making a route. Printed self-guided maps are available at the exhibition and selected city locations, with a digital map linked from the official tour page. Some participating work is also displayed at City Hall through November 13. This is an opportunity to explore local creative businesses at their own spaces; purchases are a separate choice, and the map supplies the actual stops.

Community Put downtown’s lighting night on your calendar The city announced October 13 that Old Town Square’s holiday lighting ceremony will be Friday, November 6. Guerrilla Fanfare Brass Band is listed for 5:30–7 PM, with a short ceremony at 6:30 PM before the lights turn on. If you drive, use the city’s linked parking and street-closure information. The WrapA useful weekend plan can start with one part of Open Streets or a preview of the artists who open their studios next weekend. Keep the actual dates with the idea: tonight’s Rams game is away, Friday is a school break and the city’s municipal counter closes next week. If a local project or community gathering needs a closer look, send its dated source through our tip form so the next edition can help neighbors plan.
