Hello, McKinney. Two Saturday traditions have new locations this year. Start with the details for Día de los Muertos at TUPPS, then save the right address for the city’s trick-or-treat trail.
Community & culture Today’s big storyDía de los Muertos moves to TUPPS this SaturdaySaturday’s McKinney Día de los Muertos festival has a new address: TUPPS Brewery, 402 E. Louisiana Street. After five years at Dr. Glenn Mitchell Memorial Park, the celebration moves to the brewery grounds on October 17. Visit McKinney lists noon–9 PM and says the event is free and open to all. Make that location change part of the plan before setting out with family or friends. The organizer calls 2026 the Year of the Heart and puts remembrance at the center of the day. Community ofrendas, a memory tree and butterfly messages give visitors different ways to honor loved ones. The festival invites people to bring a loved one’s photograph for the community altars and says frames will be supplied. That offers a concrete way to take part, alongside watching a performance or browsing the market. The activities page lists traditional dance, live music ranging from mariachi to salsa, hands-on art, artisan booths and face painting. It also directs visitors to a separate Catrina contest page. General festival admission and a contest entry are different decisions: use the organizer’s rules before entering a competition, and budget separately for purchases from vendors. The free festival listing does not establish that every optional purchase or activity is included. The organizer provides a free registration link and a volunteer link on its own site. Use those current routes for participation instructions and any last-minute changes. With a nine-hour advertised span, there is room to choose a shorter visit rather than planning to stay all day. Check the activity information that matters to your group, save the new TUPPS address and share it with anyone joining you.

Saturday, Oct 17Trick or Treat Trail at its new park | 3:00 PM–6:00 PM | Bonnie Wenk Park, 2996 Virginia Parkway, McKinney | Free admission; food purchases separate The city’s seasonal guide confirms free admission, and the detailed event page places this year’s trail at Bonnie Wenk Park. Costumes are encouraged. Expect treat stops, games, amusement rides, dancing and family photo opportunities. Roaming judges select costume-contest winners; vendor applications being closed does not mean family admission is closed.

News NotesSchools Put October 26 on the family calendar McKinney ISD began its new nine-week grading period yesterday, following the October 12–13 holidays. Its next listed interruption is Monday, October 26: staff development and a student holiday. Families arranging work or childcare can mark that date now. This is the MISD calendar; check the relevant district for children whose McKinney address is served by another school system. Services Use the open library branch for an errand Roy & Helen Hall Memorial Library at 101 E. Hunt Street remains closed for renovation. John & Judy Gay Library, 6861 W. Eldorado Parkway, lists Monday–Thursday hours of 10 AM–9 PM and Friday–Sunday hours of 10 AM–6 PM. The current official page lists the JJG book drop for returns. No reopening date is announced in that notice. Families Two little-one sessions are waitlisted today Today’s 10:30–11 AM Toddler Time for ages 16 months–3 years and 11:30 AM–12:15 PM Little Explorers for ages 3–5 both show full with a waitlist available. Both meet at John & Judy Gay Library and require caregivers to stay for the entire program. Join the appropriate waitlist through the exact event page; a waitlist entry does not confirm a seat. Development Airport terminal targets November 11 McKinney’s September 24 airport update sets November 11 as the planned opening of its commercial passenger terminal. The first announced Avelo route is Fort Myers that day, followed by Las Vegas and Orlando on November 12. Atlanta and Denver are scheduled to begin December 16, with Nashville and New Orleans December 17. These are announced future launch dates. For an actual trip, use the airline’s current booking schedule and the airport code DTX, and check flight and baggage terms before buying. Civic The city’s new budget is in effect The fiscal 2026–27 budget took effect October 1. The city’s adoption announcement retains a property-tax rate of $0.412284 per $100 of taxable value and puts the General Fund at roughly $246.5 million. It describes about $1.2 million in targeted expense reductions plus a $1 million McKinney Community Development Corporation transfer to balance the fund. The adopted status matters: this is the spending framework now in place, rather than a proposal awaiting a council vote.
Independent business The Local FindA downtown evening with two kinds of bookingThe Cipher Lounge lists Thursday hours of 5–10 PM at 101 S. Chestnut Street. Its owner’s site brings a cocktail-and-small-plates lounge together with two separately bookable escape-room experiences, Ghosted and Airlock. Ghosted uses a haunted-hotel theme; Airlock takes a science-fiction approach. That distinction helps a group choose the experience it actually wants before reserving. A lounge table and an escape-room session have separate booking links, so use the appropriate reservation route and review the room’s participant and price terms before paying. The site also offers gift cards for food, drinks and applicable gratuities or service charges in the lounge; it says they do not cover escape-room bookings unless specifically stated. This is a current local discovery, with the owner’s hours and booking routes attached, rather than a claim about a new opening or a firsthand visit.

Plan aheadPlan ahead Halloween Haunt uses two separate entry times The city lists its all-ages Halloween Haunt at John & Judy Gay Library on Saturday, October 31, with entry at 10 AM and 11:30 AM. Admission is free and registration is required. Each time has its own dated booking record in the library calendar. Choose one matching your household’s schedule and check its live availability before planning a visit.
The WrapThis weekend offers two different ways to spend time together: a celebration of remembrance at TUPPS and a costume trail at Bonnie Wenk Park. Share the actual address along with the event name when making plans. For weekday routines, keep October 26’s MISD student holiday in view and use the current library branch and registration details. Have a specific neighborhood update? Send the dated organizer or city source through our local tip form.
